June 3, 2017 - City officials hope to open an exciting new inflatable water sports park at Buckroe Beach by the Fourth of July. The new park would be anchored between the fishing pier and observation pier at the beach, in water that is at least 8 feet deep. Plans for the park were presented to City Council the first week of May.
In giving the go-ahead for the project, enthusiastic council members pushed for opening the park as soon as possible. City Manager Mary Bunting noted that the park is in harmony with Hampton’s "culture of water." The park would cost about $175,000 and would be paid for by entrance fees. Officials are still working on a name for the park and other key details.
The water park is part of a continuing "Placemaking" initiative that focuses on making Hampton an inviting place to live, work or play. Additional amenities are being added to various city beaches and parks, and additional, off-site parking will be available at Buckroe thanks to a Parks and Recreation shuttle. More information.
