Office of the Assessor of Real Estate
The Office of the Assessor of Real Estate fairly and equitably assesses the real estate in the City of Hampton annually and provides accurate property information under the authority of the Constitution of Virginia, Code of Virginia and Municipal Code of Hampton, and in accordance with standards of professional practice.

The guiding values of the Office of the Assessor of Real Estate are equalization, accuracy and efficiency: These values guide all valuation activities, the maintenance and distribution of information, as well as general administrative and technical functions.

The office is a recipient of the International Association of Assessing Officers’ Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration (2012 - Present).  Hampton is the first Virginia locality and the eighth internationally to receive this award.

Assessment news: City's land held value in 2014
Jan. 28, 2015 - The value of all taxable properties increased slightly in 2014, said City Assessor Brian Gordineer. The increase was less than one percent. Fiscal year 2016, beginning July 1, will see the first increase in taxable land values since 2010. News release
