  1. Hampton Roads Convention Center Halls of Art XI Exhibition

    May 15, 9:00 AM - October 11, 5:00 PM @ Hampton Roads Convention Center

    The Hampton Roads Convention Center will host a gallery comprised of 44 regional artists and 60 pieces of art. Art featured at the Hampton Roads Convention Center will be available for purchase. The center is currently requesting that any art purchased be allowed to remain in the building for six months, however special exceptions will be made. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the artists directly for further information about their art.

  8. 152nd Anniversary of the "Contraband Decision" Commemorative Event

    Three enslaved men, known to us today as Frank Baker, James Townsend, and Shepherd Mallory, escaped and sought freedom with the Union Army at Fort Monroe during the U.S. Civil War. This act of bravery and Major General Benjamin Butler's "Contraband Decision" led to thousands more seeking refuge here, earning the fort the name "Freedom's Fortress." Explore this rich history and learn how these events contributed to the history of the United States and the Emancipation Proclamation. Sponsored by: The National Park Service, The Contraband Historical Society, Hampton Parks and Recreation, and the Fort Monroe Authority.

    Enter the wonderfully puzzling world of Mindbender Mansion, an eclectic place full of brainteasers and interactive challenges guaranteed to test the brain power and problem solving skills of even the most experienced puzzlers. Visitors to this fun and quirky mansion are invited to join the Mindbender Society by gathering hidden clues and secret passwords scattered throughout the various thematic rooms of the house. Clues and passwords are revealed by solving select brainteasers and group challenges. Visitors are encouraged to think outside the box and collaborate with their fellow mansion guests to meet individual and group challenges, which include manipulating a tilt table, forming patterns in rolling chairs, keeping up with a conveyer belt, maneuvering a flying machine, and disco hopscotch spelling. .
