Scout Day held Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Scouts shadow city employees and learn about city government. They hold a Mock Council Session to learn the role of city council in setting policy.

Boo Williams Sportsplex
Grand opening ceremonies were held on March 11, 2008. The event was hosted by Jack Ankerson, Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Sports Commission. Notable guests included: Hampton Mayor Ross A. Kearney, II; Chesapeake native and Miami Heat center, Alonzo Mourning; and Hampton University President William R. Harvey.
The $13.5-million, 135,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is expected to host the state high school championships as well as some college championships. The Sportsplex is the culminating dream of local sports icon, Marcellus “Boo” Williams. Williams’ AAU youth summer basketball camps developed Mourning and several NBA athletes. Future plans include recruitment efforts to get the NCAA and MEAC championships to be held at the Hampton sports facility.
