Get Involved
Each year, the CJA works with thousands of individuals living in Hampton and Newport News. With the number of clients we see, and the various scenarios we are presented with on a daily basis, the CJA provides a rich environment for all types of students wishing to develop a strong base of experience while still in school. We offer a wide variety of internships for serious, dedicated students. The importance and value of volunteer assistance is not wasted on the CJA. The clients we see live in our area neighborhoods and can benefit greatly from a positive volunteer presence. What better role model for a client than an individual helping in our offices simply because they want to?

The Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) was established as the result of a multi-jurisdictional effort between Hampton and Newport News to provide unified and comprehensive community-based criminal justice programs to both jurisdictions. The CJA was formally established by City Council resolutions in Hampton and Newport News, effective July 1, 1995, in response to the Comprehensive Community Corrections Act for Local-Responsible Offenders, §9.1-173, et seq., and the Pretrial Services Act, §19.2-152.2, et seq., of the Code of Virginia.
