Compensation and classification study information is available online

Posted on August 29, 2014 at 9:29 AM by Fred Gaskins

Since Monday, 680 employees attended 1 of the 17 information sessions held by Management Advisory Group, MAG.  During those sessions employees learned about the study and the importance of providing feedback on their job by completing the Job Analysis Questionnaire, JAQ. Below are a few things to know as you prepare to complete the JAQ.

1. For those employees who were unable to attend a session, you can click on the following link to access a videotaped session at http://youtu.be/r7v-aSqNXs8. This video is only accessible by clicking on this link or from the Employee Connection Page at Hampton.gov/employeesand cannot be accessed through the general YouTube library. A PowerPoint presentation is also available.

To complete the JAQ, please go to www.maginc.org. You will enter your employee id for both your user name and password. If you’ve forgotten yours, you can log into iPay. Your employee number is the last 4 digits of the FILE# at the top of your pay statement. Please be aware that the first few screens may take a little longer to process due to the large amount of data processing in the background. Once you get to question 4 or 5, you will notice faster processing times. A list of frequently asked questions and answers is available.

3. Please make arrangements with your supervisor to complete the JAQ during regular work hours, with minimal disruption to city services. The time spent completing the JAQ is compensable. The JAQ can be completed by a group or individually.

4. September 12th is the deadline to for employees to complete the JAQ and September 19th is the deadline for supervisors to review their employee’s responses.

Please share this information with employees who don’t have access to email.

Thanks for your participation and look for updates as we move forward with this study.

Posted on August 27, 2014 at 1:51 PM by Fred Gaskins

The City of Hampton has contracted with Management Advisory Group (MAG) to conduct a compensation and classification study for positions within the City’s compensation plan.

MAG will be on-site this week conducting employee information sessions to explain the study and the specific process of gathering  information on each job in the City through a Job Analysis Questionnaire..

The sessions will last approximately 45 minutes and employees are encouraged to attend to learn about the study and the importance of your participation in the process. You will be able to ask questions as well.

The schedule is listed below. The highlighted sessions have limited seating and are available to department personnel only. Pre-registration is not required, however you are encouraged to make arrangements with your supervisor to minimize the disruption of City services.

If you are unable to attend a meeting, you can go online to view one that was videotaped. Employees should go to www.maginc.org to take the study. You will need your employee number to log in to the survey. If you've forgotten your employee number, you can log into ipay here. Your employee number is the last four digits of the FILE # at the top of your pay statement.

You can also go online to see a list of frequently asked questions. for more information, feel free to contact the Human Resources Department at hrfrontdesk@hampton.gov or 727-6407.

Manager's Message 8-26-14: Compensation & Classification Study

Posted on August 26, 2014 at 11:15 AM by Mary Bunting

Over the past several months, I have shared that we are conducting a comprehensive employee compensation review. This review is being conducted by Management Advisory Group, MAG, an external expert on compensation and pay structures.

I am very excited about this study and Council's willingness to fund it as it has been over twenty years since we have done a study of this type. While Human Resources has monitored external pay comparisons over those years, this will be a comprehensive study that will look at all job descriptions, internal comparisons of jobs and external pay comparability.
