Melting Snow Will Wash Litter Into WaterwaysFebruary 2, 2010The melting snow from our recent storm will result in increased litter in waterways. We urge residents and businesses to begin litter cleanups as soon as you see litter through the snow. The litter will wash into our storm drains, potentially causing melt flooding, and from there into our waterways, impacting on our quality of life and economy. We also strongly encourage Adopt-A-Spot groups to check their sites and clean them up if necessary. To borrow cleanup equipment from the Hampton Clean City Commission, click HERE, or call 727-1130 to request supplies. You do not have to be a participant in an ongoing Adopt-A-Spot group to organize a community cleanup. Equipment available for your use includes litter sticks, safety vests, cotton work gloves, and trash bags. For more information about litter and efforts underway to reduce its impact on our environment, contact the Hampton Clean City Commission at hccc@hampton.gov or 727-1130. ### Media Contact:
