The Hampton Roads Regional Law Enforcement Training Center is currently located in Newport News , Virginia . The Basic Law Enforcement Class is a 16 week college level course that runs three times a year. The academy is primarily held during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, and 100% attendance is required
Because it is a regional academy, recruits will only learn Virginia State Law and will meet those mandates set forth by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). Upon graduation from the academy, recruits will return to the Hampton Police Division to learn and understand Hampton City Law and Division Rules & Regulations, Policy & Procedures, etc.
Police Recruits employed with the Hampton Police Division will receive a starting salary of $34,650 and all City provided benefits. After successful completion of the academy and OJT, the recruit will receive a minimum salary of $36,700.
