D.A.R.E.

At no expense to Hampton City Schools, the Hampton Sheriffs Office implemented a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) pilot program in six Elementary schools in 1999. After an intensive training program, two Sheriff deputies began teaching the D.A.R.E. curriculum to fifth grade students at Aberdeen, Bryan,Cary, Lee, Moton and Wythe Elementary Schools. At the end of the 17-week program D.A.R.E. culmination ceremonies are held at each school. Over seven hundred (700) fifth graders have completed the program. The goal is to systematically include additional schools each year until all 25 city public elementary schools are included in the program.
