Another example of our partnership with Hampton City Schools, is our participation in Lunch Buddies. This program gives deputies and civilian staff members the opportunity to visit Hampton Elementary schools to mentor and tutor students in reading. While this program is designed for one-on-one interaction between deputy and student, a cafeteria visit allows for interaction between the deputy and a full class of elementary school students. It also gives the kids an opportunity to see firsthand that law enforcement officers are their friends, desiring to assist rather than arrest and incarcerate.
