As an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., we share the philosophy that each of us has a responsibility for enhancing our community environment.

2023 Clean City Volunteer Recognition

Clean City Volunteer Recognition Awards 2023Clean City hosted its 45th Anniversary Volunteer Recognition Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at Bluebird Gap Farm.  Clean City Awards honors Hampton residents for their role/involvement in:

  • Beautification/urban forestry/gardening efforts
  • Environmental education
  • Litter & cigarette litter prevention/reduction
  • Recycling/waste management
  • Water quality/stormwater improvement
  • Outstanding support for HCCC activities

2023 Volunteer Recognition Excellence Award Winners:

  • Rolland Schattschneider Award for Cigarette Litter Prevention/Reduction: Becky Holliday
  • Bert Carr Litter Abatement  Award Winner: Buckroe Improvement League
  • Mary Jo Hogg Water Quality  Award Winner: Claire Neubert and Linda Hamm of Shored Up
  • Harriet N. Storm Environmental Education  Award Winner: Betsy McAllister, STEM Teacher Specialist for Hampton City Schools and Educator in Residence, National Institute of Aerospace 
  • Hampton Clean City Commission Innovative Educator of the Year Award Winner: Ashley Ault, Art teacher at  Hampton High School, HCCC Hampton Waterways Restoration Committee Chair and School Pride in Action Committee member
  • Hampton Clean City Commission Innovative Schools of the Year Award Winners: Burbank Elementary School, Jones Magnet Middle School, Hampton High School Ecology Club, Gloria Dei Luther School Preschool, Kecoughtan High School
