Clean City Volunteer Focus on the futureRecognition Event: October 20, 2022

Clean City will host its 44th Anniversary Volunteer Recognition Celebration on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Nomination forms for the Clean City Award can be found here, and nominations for the Innovative Teacher and/or School Awards here.

Last day to submit nominations is October 7, 2022.


Clean City Awards honors Hampton citizens for their role/involvement in 

  • beautification/urban forestry/gardening efforts
  • environmental education
  • litter & cigarette litter prevention/reduction
  • recycling/waste management
  • water quality/stormwater improvement
  • outstanding support for HCCC activities

From these nominations, the four Excellence Award winners are selected:

  • Bert Carr Excellence Award for Beautification/Litter Prevention
  • Mary Jo Hogge Excellence Award for Water Quality/Stormwater Improvement
  • Rolland Schattschneider Excellence Award for Cigarette Litter Prevention/Reduction
  • Harriet N. Storm Excellence Award for Environmental Education


The Innovative Teacher and Innovative School Award honor Hampton Educators and Schools who have gone above and beyond in providing environmental education initiatives and programs to students.   The Innovative Teacher Award is also selected from Clean City nominees.

Project areas are:

  • Litter cleanups
  • Beautification projects
  • Recycling collection
  • Energy conservation
  • Water quality
  • Ecology/science/environmental clubs
  • Environmental education
  • Teacher/staff education

 Adopt-A-Spot Awards are also given to sponsors for the following categories for the period of October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022:

  • Golden Litterstick, 20+ cleanups
  • Extra Mile, 10-19 cleanups
  • Honorable Mention, 5-9 cleanups

Sponsors must submit online statistical report forms to be considered for an award category.  The last day to submit stat forms for this award period is October 1, 2022.
