The city received a Savvy Award from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association for the "Choose Hampton" campaign, which was eventually adopted by city departments and offices. The campaign highlighted Hampton as a great place to live, work and play.xx
Digital Cities Award:
Hampton placed 7th in the Digital Cities competition for communities with a population of 125,000-249,000. The award recognizes leading examples of cities using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies.
On April 23, Hampton Public Library received an "honorable mention" from The Virginia Public Library Directors Association for making April's Superhero Day a big success. Staff reached out to emergency responders, the military and others to create real-life heroes who read aloud to kids during the event. They also created a superhero obstacle course for kids and dressed in costume, providing a dramatic play pitting Batman against Bane. Target provided candy and volunteers.The award was for an outstanding program in cooperation with another group, organization or library system.
Fire Department awards:
The Division of Fire & Rescue honored a number of people during the annual awards ceremony in June, including volunteer of the year, civilian employee of the year, firefighter of the year and officer of the year. More information.
