Urgency of Now (RuON)

RUON Dr Smith and youth groupUrgency of Now, or RuON, takes place annually to address the concerns about increased violence among youth and young adults, with an emphasis on black males ages 15 – 24.

This event brings together key local and regional leaders in an effort to engage the community in dialogue, gain feedback and provide an opportunity to collaborate on action-oriented strategies for reducing violence.

Youth Violence Prevention Week

The 2021 Urgency of Now event kicks off Hampton’s first Youth Violence Prevention Week on Monday, April 12, 2021.

  • Unite in Action Challenge
    Design a service-learning project where groups of trusted adults and young people work together to share information about positive resources and ways to reduce violence in the community. Must be a project developed by youth and adults. Winners will be announced on May 3rd and will receive funding to put their plan into action.
