Teens enrolled in the Teen Life - Unplugged camp are provided with many opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and ideas beyond the school year. Beginning summer 2019, enrichment programs have been carefully planned to give each camper a chance to pursue other interests in conjunction with the camps' daily schedule.
Opportunities for our teen campers ages 12-15 include:
- Golf lessons*
- Sailing lessons:
Parents will need to approve the lessons for their camper. The can do so by reviewing the Teen Life - Unplugged handbook, completing the appropriate section, then returning to the camp's community center. Staff members will transport and attend each sailing lesson with their camper which will be held at Fort Monroe Sailing Center, Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- "TeenPreneur" programs offered by Hampton's WorkOne Center, Hampton City Schools and the Parks Recreation and Leisure Services Department:
Bright Ideas: Hampton Jr. Entrepreneurs: This program will help train the next generation of business leaders through fun games, activities and group projects. They can learn business and marketing strategy, essential problem-solving and leadership skills, and much more. Each student will be asked to develop an idea or business that he or she can start on the final day of camp, and there will be encouraging guest speakers.
Use, Understand & Create: Facebook Digital Promise Training: This program provides a road map for marketing on social media. Participants will develop a Facebook page and Instagram account for a local community organization or business they've chosen, use that page to build awareness and boost business, and create advertising campaigns to support the page. The training also allows provide valuable microcredentials to participants, giving them a head start in job skills and more.
Please note that parent commitment is vital to the success of the camper’s experience. Campers will be picked up from their facility no later than 7:30 a.m for the two-week session.
