CDL Driver Training Program

The DriveNOW Program is a training program that prepares Hampton residents for a career as a bus operator with Hampton Roads Transit. The four-week pre-employment program provides career readiness training and prepares participants to obtain a commercial driver's license learner's permit.

The   program, free for eligible participants, is a partnership between the City of Hampton WorkOne Center and HRT to offer training to equip residents with a learner's commercial driver's license (CDL), a Career Readiness Certificate, and customer service and workplace essential skills. 

About the DriveNOW classes

  • 4-week program
  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Hampton's WorkOne Center, Y.H. Thomas Complex, 1300 Thomas St. 
  • Application deadline: Feb. 16, 2020

After successful completion of the Job Skills Training Program, participants will receive additional on-the-job training required to earn a CDL Class B license and start full-time employment with HRT as a bus operator trainee. Once hired as bus operator trainees, participants will receive additional training.
