  1. Mayor's Forum on Facebook Live

    June 28, 2021, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Facebook Live online

Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck will host fellow Hampton Roads mayors as they continue their discussion on public safety on Monday, June 28, at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live. The mayors of all seven major Hampton Roads participated in the first Mayors’ Forum, held in April, and are invited to return. Much of the discussion involved preventing violence by implementing programs and activities aimed at teens and young adults, primarily Black males, who are disproportionally affected by violence. Viewers are welcome to write questions and comments while they watch. This second forum comes at a time when violence has been increasing across Hampton Roads and the nation. An article in The Virginian-Pilot noted that Norfolk General Hospital, the region’s level 1 adult trauma center, treated 38% more violence-related trauma patients in 2020 than the year before, and that trend is continuing into 2021. The vast majority of the victims, said the article, were Black men.

    June 29, 2021, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Facebook Live

Covid-19 cases have decreased dramatically, businesses have reopened, and vaccinated people aren't wearing masks. But for people struggling with depression, addiction or other mental health issues spurred by Covid, life isn't getting back to normal. Mayor Donnie Tuck will host a forum with local experts to discuss the effects of Covid on mental health. Residents who may be suffering — or know someone who is — can learn how to get help. Members of the public are invited to pose questions to the panel: Anthony Crisp, director of addiction and recovery treatment services at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board; Dr. Bruce Copeland, coordinator of social work services for Hampton City Schools; and Betsy Clark, children’s services administrator for Hampton's Human Services Department.

Employee Connection - For City Employees ONLY

  1. Why Every Captain Needs a Crew in Caregiving -- For City Employees

    June 24, 2021, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Online Zoom

Providing round-the-clock home care to someone in need can take a toll on your physical and mental health. Taking care of daily responsibilities such as providing companionship, cleaning, feeding, and medicating can lead to caregiver burnout. This is why it is important to create a team to support you when you need assistance, but sometimes it can be hard to know where to begin when forming your crew. Please join Optima EAP as we discuss the importance of caregiving, the tools you have at your disposal, and how to create your own support team. We are excited to invite you to a seminar led by Randi Keesee, vice president of development for the Peninsula Agency on Aging. In this one-hour session, we will discuss the prevalence of caregivers in the workforce and the demands of being a working family caregiver. We will also teach you various strategies to support your work-life balance and help you discover tools that can assist employers and employees alike.

Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators.
