    **THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED** The Bay Days Foundation proudly presents the 2018 Wacky Olympics, formerly known as The Freaky Kon-Tiki. Teams of 5 will use recycled and non-marine material to build a raft and race down the waters next to Mill Creek Park. Teams will have 2 hours to construct their raft on site. Other events include a cornhole toss, a clothes pin drop, tricycle race, balloon toss, and a hula hoop contest. Race is limited to 25 teams of 6 people. There will be vendors, crafters, DJ at noon and live music at 3 p.m. $10 registration fee per person.

  3. Agents of Good Roots w/Mosquito Cabaret — Hampton Block Party

    Agents of Good Roots is an American rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Founded in 1993 Agents of Good Roots toured the United States from 1995 through 2001. In October 2017, they reunited for a memorial show for their tour manager and spiritual adviser, Jeff Peskin. The five minstrels of Mosquito Cabaret have scoured the globe in search of eclectic and raucous sounds. The Downtown Hampton Block Party has become a summer series of massive community get-togethers on Queens Way for partiers and families who enjoy live outdoor music, complete with a children's area, food trucks, drink kiosks and vendors.

We will meet at War Memorial Stadium to take our cruise through the Wythe neighborhood prior to the Peninsula Pilots home game against the Edenton Steamers. For all of those who join us for the ride, we will randomly distribute 25 game tickets + event T-shirts. If you aren't the recipient of a ticket + T-shirt package, game tickets are $5 each, and we hope you will stay for the game and hang out with the Bike Walk crew.

  1. ‘NASA: Hampton Takes Flight’ exhibit

    The story of Hampton’s leading role in aeronautics and space exploration is presented in the exhibit “NASA: Hampton Takes Flight.” In this update to the museum’s Hampton History Galleries, visitors can experience 100 years of NASA history from its early days as NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) to the Space Race. The exhibit celebrates the NACA and NASA’s singular history and immeasurable contribution to the Hampton community. This installation features artifacts and images recently acquired from NASA Langley Research Center. This will be the first step in refreshing the museum’s 20th Century Galleries, and accompanies “When the Computer Wore a Skirt: NASA’s Human Computers,” that opened in January 2017.

    Pirates, Privateers and Buccaneers, the South Carolina State Museum’s traveling exhibit, will make patrons avast (that’s stop in pirate lingo) and gasp as the world of pirates comes alive. The exhibit opens to public at the Hampton History Museum on Saturday, May 12, as a part of the 19th Annual Blackbeard Festival. In commemoration of the 300th anniversary the death of the notorious Blackbeard and the 19th Annual Blackbeard Festival, the exhibit, on loan from the South Carolina State Museum, tells the story of Blackbeard, who blockaded Charleston Harbor in 1718 prior to his death in North Carolina, along with the stories of many other pirates.

Hampton History Museum

  1. Free Carousel Rides - Hampton Carousel

    In celebration of National Carousel Day, also known as National Merry-Go-Round Day, the Hampton History Museum will offer free rides on the historic Hampton Carousel on Wednesday, July 25, 11 am – 8 pm. Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators.
