From Tragedy to Triumph: The Martha Ann Fields Story - Virtual Event

Monday, September 13, 2021

Tune into the Hampton History Museum's Facebook page to view on Facebook Live: https://www.facebook.com/HamptonHistoryMuseum Hear the uniquely American story of Martha Ann Fields, an enslaved cook, and one of Virginia’s unsung heroes who escaped and journeyed to Fort Monroe seeking freedom for herself and her eight children. The celebrated award-winning Djelimusa (African storyteller) and Historical Interpreter, Valerie Davis, captures the physical, historical, and spiritual essence of this former enslaved woman from the Nutshell Plantation in Hanover County as she reveals this true story of love, longing, faith, betrayal, and courage. After the event airs on Facebook Live, it will later be uploaded onto the museum's YouTube playlist and www.hamptonhistorymuseum.org.
