[ARCHIVED] United Way Honors City of Hampton Parks & Recreation

united way award

March 30, 2015 - Hampton’s Parks and Recreation Department was honored by United Way of the Virginia Peninsula at its Campaign & Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on March 12th at the Newport News Marriott at City Center.

The annual event recognizes local businesses and employees for outstanding contributions to the Peninsula community through United Way participation.

???Hampton Parks and Recreation Director Jim Wilson and Briarfield Park Supervisor Chris Guthomson were recognized for their efforts in planning and supervision of the principal project for United Way’s 2014 Day of Caring volunteer event last September.

During this event Briarfield Park in Hampton received a much-needed “facelift” thanks to a well-coordinated effort by Hampton Parks and Recreation staff and approximately 80 local volunteers who painted dugout roofs, installed new picnic tables and grills, painted four park picnic shelters, and provided landscaping at four different park sites.

United Way of the Virginia Peninsula serves the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson, and the counties of Gloucester, Mathews and York.
