[ARCHIVED] Planning Commission to consider capital plan, live entertainment permits

March 31, 2015 - The Hampton Planning Commission will hold public hearings and consider two live music permits, as well as the city’s five-year spending plan, at its meeting Thursday.

• Indoor live entertainment at St. George Brewing Co. at 204 Challenger Way. The brewery proposes a variety of entertainment options - from exhibitions and trade shows to live music - to provide “more of an atmosphere for our guests” at the brewery and taproom. The request follows at City Council zoning amendment in July that allowed live entertainment with a use permit at microbreweries.

• Avenue Blue Piano Bar, at Peninsula Town Center (spot formerly occupied by Terra Restaurant). The new restaurant is proposing a pianist, jazz/blues bands and vocalists.

• The city’s five-year spending plan covers fiscal years 2016-2020. It projects spending $57 million on maintenance and upgrades to public properties; $47 million on streets and infrastructure; $37 million on educational projects; $26 million on waterways projects; $17 million in support of the city’s Master Plans; $13 million on public safety projects; and a variety of other categories. The total projection is $213 million over the 5-year period.

The Planning Commission meets Thursday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting will be televised on the city’s cable channel (Cox 47; Verizon 23) and streamed online.
