[ARCHIVED] Salt Ponds inlet dredging starts after Memorial Day

May 15, 2015 - Southwind Construction, the contractor for the Salt Pond inlet dredging, is scheduled to begin work the week of May 26. Dredging will take place from 7a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week.

The plan is to dredge those portions of the channel that have had the most shoaling. Throughout the process, the contractor will leave an open area in the channel to make room for boat traffic.

The project is scheduled to be completed about June 2-3. The last two days of the schedule is reserved for installation/replacement of channel markers.

Property owners and residents along the Salt Ponds Inlet and the public beach have been notified of the pending construction via mail. The southern end of the beach will be available for use on Memorial Day weekend. During that time the northern portion will be fenced off and signed “keep out.”

All of the beach will be signed as “closed” starting Tuesday May 26, 2015 and throughhout the duration of the project. Parks and engineering will check on the status of the project daily.
