[ARCHIVED] Plan to begin dredging Salt Ponds inlet delayed

June 1, 2015 - Plans to begin dredging the Salt Pond inlet, which had been scheduled to start after Memorial Day, have been put on hold because of weather.

When conditions improve, Southwind Construction, the contractor, will perform the work seven days a week from 7a.m.-7 p.m.

The plan is to dredge those portions of the channel that have had the most shoaling. Throughout the process, the contractor will leave an open area in the channel to make room for boat traffic. Once dredging starts, the last two days will be used for installation/replacement of channel markers.

Property owners and residents along the inlet and the public beach have been notified of the pending construction via mail. Throughout the dredging all of the beach will be signed as “closed.” Parks and engineering will check on the status of the project daily.
