[ARCHIVED] Hampton again a heat advisory

Tuesday, July 21, 2015 - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has again issued a heat advisory for Hampton - from noon-8 p.m. today. The city is expected to experience a high heat index of 100-103 degrees.

At 9:30 this morning the temperature was about 81 degrees with a heat index of 91 degrees. the heat index of what the weather actually feels like outside. City libraries and community centers are open to citizens who need to get out of the heat, and there is water available at all of those locations. The Office of Emergency Management said the city is also prepared to open a dedicated cooling site if needed.

The H.E.L.P. Day Center at 329 Buckroe Ave. will be open today from 9 am- 3 pm for those seeking respite from the heat, and H.E.L.P.'s mobile unit is prepared tofo downtown this evening to pass out water, if necessary.

Please encourage all employees, families and friends to take the necessary precautions throughout the day as the temperatures rise.

Emergency Management will continue to monitor the heat and will provide updates as needed.
