[ARCHIVED] Recycle old phones with the Hampton Sheriff's Office

July 22, 2015 - For nearly eight years the Hampton Sheriff’s Office has partnered with cell phone recycling organizations to help protect the environment by collecting used and unwanted cell phones.

The program keeps used phones out of landfills where they can leach hazardous materials into the surrounding environment. It has also raised money to provide emergency communications to area senior citizens and victims of domestic abuse.

Major contributors to our recycling program have been the City of Hampton, Hampton City Schools, Hampton Fire and Rescue and several private sector organizations.

Over eight years the Sheriff Office has collected more than 3,000 phones and donated nearly $2,000.00.

Unwanted cell phones can be dropped off at the Hampton Sheriff’s Office, 1928 W. Pembroke Ave., or 135 High Court Lane. Phones can also be dropped off at any branch of the Hampton Public Library.

For more information contact Lt. Alonzo Cherry at 728-2010 or acherry@hampton.gov.
