[ARCHIVED] Fire & Rescue gets top services rating

April 4, 2016 - The Division of Fire & Rescue would like to proudly announce that our new Insurance Services Office "class 1" rating is in effect as of April 1. The Division thanks our members, city officials, and others who helped reach this goal.

Several months ago, the Division, which provides fire and emergency medical services to the city, voluntarily requested an external evaluation of the department’s services and capabilities by the Insurance Services Office. As a result, the Division received a Class 1 rating, which is the highest score a fire protection community can receive. The Division was previously a Class 4.

The Insurance Services Office evaluates fire protection efforts in cities and districts throughout the country. They rate agencies on a scale of 1–10, with 1 being the best. The ratings are calculated on multiple factors, such as the fire department itself, the water supply system, community risk reduction activities, and the dispatch center.

The ratings are often used by insurance companies to determine both civilian and commercial insurance rates. So, this new rating could possibly be a benefit to all citizens and businesses in the city. Contact your insurance representative for possible benefits.
