April 6, 2016 -- The Hampton Planning Commission is scheduled to have a public hearing and vote on the proposed capital improvement plan at its meeting Thursday, April 7, at 3:30 p.m.
The proposed five-year budget for fiscal years 2017-2021 is about 1 percent smaller than the previous five-year plan (FY16-20) and totals $208 million.
Highlights of the proposal include:
-$37 million for educational projects;
-$28 million for stormwater and other waterways projects;
-$59 million for maintenance;
-$11.7 million for master plans and economic development;
-$2.5 million for neighborhood support;
-$15.7 million for public safety (including the Wythe Fire Station and a new emergency and 911 center); and
-$44 million for streets and infrastructure.
After Planning Commission, the City Council will consider the capital plan along with the budget. Citizens can comment during those public hearings, scheduled for April 27 and May 4.
The Planning Commission meets at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. Meetings will also be broadcast on Hampton TV (Cox 47/Fios 23) and streamed online.
