April 17, 2017 - Several local leaders were on hand Friday for the start of the Pirate Express,  a limited shuttle service for Hampton University students that will operate Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday between the campus and downtown, Walmart and the Peninsula Town Center.  Sponsored by Hampton's Economic Development Authority and Hampton University, the shuttle is designed to help university students who don't have transportation, and to encourage students to shop downtown and elsewhere in the city. Hampton City Council passed a resolution in February supporting the shuttle service. In attached photo, below, Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck (far right), Hampton University President William Harvey, City Manager Mary Bunting, and Economic Development Authority board member Michelle Ferebee are with students during ribbon-cutting.
