April 19, 2017 - Hampton will become the nation’s 23rd Ford Next Generation Learning Community - and the first in Virginia - during a special ceremony Thursday. Ford executives will visit all four high schools, meet with business executives, and celebrate the honor with city officials, business leaders and community partners.
In order to be designated a Ford NGL community, Hampton has developed a five-year master plan to increase the number of students learning in college and career academies and broaden its reach in Hampton and the peninsula through affiliations with senior business, education and civic leaders.
Tuesday morning, Veronica Hurd, director of the Academies of Hampton, gave the city’s Economic Development Authority a review of plans for creating a host of new academies to serve Hampton students.
According to a news release from Hampton City Schools, the Ford NGL model mobilizes educators, employers and community leaders to prepare a new generation of young people who will graduate from high school ready for college, career and life. More information.
