[ARCHIVED] Weather service issues heat advisory, residents encouraged to stay cool, stay safe

Heat Index

July 21, 2017  - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a heat advisory for today, with temperatures expected to be in the upper 90s to 100 degrees. Additional heat advisories are expected through the weekend.

Hampton's Emergency Management Office said the combination of high temperatures and high humidity is expected to create a situation where heat illnesses are possible. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. City community centers and libraries are open and water will be available there for residents who need to get out of the heat.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Emergency Management also reminds us that heat stroke is an emergency that warrants calling 911.
