[ARCHIVED] A few tips from Animal Control to help keep your pet safe this summer

Aug. 2, 2017 - It's summer, and Hampton's Animal Control has a few safety tips for pet owners.

Never leave a pet in a parked car — even with the windows slightly open. A car that's 85 degrees inside can reach 102 degrees in just 10 minutes.
Hydrate your pets often. In high humidity, pets can easily overheat.
Avoid hot surfaces such as concrete and sand. Your pets paws can be injured by the hot surface
Leave your pets indoors when it's really hot outside to make sure they remain safe and secure.

Animal Control also recommends that you microchip your pets in case they get lost. A microchip is a small, permanent identification device that can be implanted in your pet and then registered, making it easier for you and a lost pet to be reunited.

Remember, collars can break and tags fall off, so check with your local vet today and get your pet microchipped.
