[ARCHIVED] Hampton computer and virtual reality company named top minority tech firm in U.S.

Oct. 5, 2017 - A Hampton technology company, J&F Alliance Group, has been named the 2017 Minority Technology Firm of the Year by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency. Based in downtown Hampton, J&F is a software service company that provides augmented reality, mixed reality, and virtual reality customized applications for military services and Department of Defense.

CEO Falana Dula-King started the company in 2013; her husband, JarMarcus King, is the vice president. Both served in the Army and the company works closely with the Department of Defense to develop mobile applications and training solutions.

J&F recently presented to a national chamber group how augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality applications will fundamentally change manufacturing processes, using a demonstration with a holographic V8 engine and maintenance application. According to a company release, "These high-end technologies bring vision science to an industry needing solutions for processes like advanced logistics, spatial and safety awareness, efficiency, time management, oversight, and clash reduction."

“AR empowers workers. It gives them a layer of information that makes them more confident, efficient, safer, and informed, " said JarMarcus King in a statement.

J&F is developing augmented reality for Microsoft’s HoloLens and DAQRI’s Smart Helmet. AR is not J&F’s only focus as they want to develop practical applications for any device, including VR. King stated, “Digi-captial predicts that AR/VR will hit a $150 billion market by 2020.
