Oct. 12, 2017 - Monday, Oct. 16, is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 7 general election for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, House of Delegates, Hampton commonwealth's attorney, sheriff, commissioner of revenue and treasurer.  Visit http://hampton.gov/DocumentCenter/View/19262 for a list of candidates.

Hampton's Voter Registrar's Office says Oct. 16 is also the deadline for any registered voter who needs to change their address. The Virginia Constitution requires that voters be registered in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote. Residents who are members of the uniformed services or who are overseas may visit www.hampton.gov/voter for information on how to ensure they are able to vote in this election. All voters may check their voter registration information online at www.elections.virginia.gov .

Voter registration sites:

  • Voter Registrar's Office, 1919 Commerce Drive., Suite 280, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • DMV Select, One Franklin St., Suite 101, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • DMV, 8109 Roanoke Ave., Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • All Hampton public libraries during library hours

The final day for a registered vote to apply for an absentee ballot is (by mail) Tuesday, Oct. 31 by 5 p.m. or (in person) Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 by 5 p.m.

The registrar's office will be open Saturday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for absentee voting at 1919 Commerce Drive, Suite 280. Applications for registration and absentee ballots are available at registration sites and on the registrar's website at www.hampton.gov/voter, or by calling the registrar's office at 757-727-6218.

The polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Voters are reminded that state law requires all voters to show an acceptable photo ID at the polls.
