Oct. 18, 2017 - If you're a neighborhood organization and think your folks have a knack for hanging holiday lights, there's still time to sign up for the 2nd Annual "Blissful Lights" decorating contest. The goal is to get neighborhood organizations working together to lift spirits and strengthen relationships during the holiday season.
Prizes included five grants that will let a Hampton City School student attend a week of Summer Camp Hampton sponsored by The Department of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services; five gift certificates allowing a student to attend a complimentary swim class; and five certificates giving students annual Parks and Recreation memberships.
Here's how it works: Parks will provide participants with 10 decorative, lighted balls and participants will be assigned a community center to decorate, based on the district they are in. Participants can begin decorating Nov. 27 and end Dec. 1 (call in advance to set up time with the building supervisor); judging will be based on curb appeal as viewed rom the street only, so only decorations on the "street side" of the property will be judged.
The winners will be announced at the annual holiday parade on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Carousel Park, 602 Settlers Landing Rd.
For more information and to register for "Blissful Lights," go online, contact Nicole Dennis at 757-727-6648, or visit the Parks and Recreation offices on the fifth floor of City Hall. To become a registered neighborhood service organization, call the Community Development Department at 757-727-6140 before 5 p.m. Nov. 24.
