Nov. 17, 2017 - The Hampton Planning Commission voted 3-3 Thursday on a rezoning application that would allow a new vehicle storage lot to be built at 56 Butler Farm Road between Magruder Boulevard and Armistead Avenue. Because it was a tie vote, the application will be sent to City Council without a recommendation from the Commission. Council could take action on the application, or return it to the Commission for further review.
An attorney for the applicant said the storage lot for about 711 vehicles would be built in stages and would be used by the nearby Tysinger car dealership for new vehicles. Approval of the application was recommended by city staff. Several residents of the Butler Farm Road area attended the Commission meeting, however, to oppose the application.
Also Tuesday, the Planning Commission delayed action on two zoning ordinance amendments related to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Overlay District, and approved a use permit for 227 Chapel Street, where a dance school would open within an existing church. All Planning Commission actions have to be approved by City Council.
