Apr. 27, 2018 – Gina Lewis, Director of the Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program, received the “Promoter of Excellence” award recently during Hampton City School’s Recognition Reception for Parents, Volunteers and Community Partners.
Lewis was recognized for her success matching senior citizens with Alfred S. Forrest Elementary School teachers and students. “It takes a special person to do this well, but for her it seems effortless. Gina recognizes the positive impact that Foster Grandparents have and works hard to recruit quality volunteers,” said Casey Charette, Family Engagement Specialist at Forrest. Lewis has placed seven foster grandmothers at Forrest, each of whom has had their own classroom and consistently worked with students at least 20 hours a week.
During the reception, Lewis said: “It is truly our Foster Grandparent Program volunteers that deserve the award. I serve only as a facilitator to this fantastic group of senior citizens.”
