Senior Corps names Hines Foster Grandparent of the Year for outstanding service

June 21, 2018 – Foster Grandparent Mary Hines was recognized as the Senior Corps Foster Grandparent of the Year for her outstanding service and volunteerism with the program. Hines, currently the team leader at Carver Elementary School, volunteers more than 20 hours a week and provides assistance to students identified by teachers as those requiring additional instruction with class assignments.

“Miss Hines' dedication to providing love and care for children has been evident since she first started with the Foster Grandparent program 7 years ago,” said Diretta Glover, Resource & Marketing manager for the program. “She’s a great role model and provides motivation and emotional support to every student she interacts with.”

Hines has received various awards for her volunteerism including the Presidential Award for Service from former President Barack Obama and the 2018 Virginia National Service Award. To learn more about the Foster Grandparent Program, and how you can volunteer, visit the program website
