[ARCHIVED] City issues call for artists to design, build creative, interactive installations

Booker T Washington Bridge into downtown

Sept. 4, 2018 - Hampton is looking for qualified artists to design and build interactive art "installations" that will enliven outdoor spaces in the city. The project is part of the city's "placemaking" initiative, which is focused on creating places for people and encouraging citizens to love where they live.

Submitted designs will be judged on creativity, feasibility (ability to endure the elements, ability to fabricate), appropriate scale for location, interactive/engaging design, and connection to place, or site-specific design.

The submission period is Aug. 1 through Sept. 14. Selected artists will be awarded $10,000 to develop and fabricate their design, and an additional $2,000 compensation.
