Sept. 5, 2018 - The Hampton Health Department issued a swimming advisory Wednesday for the south end of Buckroe Beach (from the pier to Point Comfort Avenue). Tests showed there were higher than standard levels of Enterococci in the water, and studies show that the presence of Enterococci is a sign that other, disease-causing organisms are in the water.  New water samples were taken Wednesday, and results should be available Thursday.

People swimming or playing in waters with bacteria levels higher than the standard have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illnesses.

While recreational waters are routinely monitored during the summer, the Health Department has finished sampling waters for this season, .
