[ARCHIVED] Hampton closings, cancellations, rescheduling from Hurricane Florence

Sept. 11, 2018 — Multiple events and locations within the city of Hampton have closed, been canceled or been rescheduled in anticipation of Hurricane Florence.

  • No trash, recycling or bulk pickups Thursday, Sept. 13, and Friday, Sept. 14. Please DO NOT take toters or bulk trash to the curb, because of high winds and flooding.
  • Hampton City Schools are closed as of Tuesday, Sept. 11, until further notice.
  • Hampton courts will close at noon Wednesday through the end of the week.
  • The Treasurer's Office is closing at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. The office is in the Ruppert Sargent Building at 1 Franklin St.
  • Fort Monroe National Monument and the Fort Monroe Community Center are closed as of Tuesday, Sept. 11.
  • City Council meeting Wednesday night has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, with no public comment period.
  • The James T. Wilson Fishing Pier is closed until further notice.
  • Buckroe Beach and Park facilities will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. 
  • The Community Development Department will stop normal construction inspections after the close of business on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018.  They will resume after any damage assessments are completed.
  • Buckroe Beach Farmers Market for Saturday, Sept. 15, has been canceled.
  • The Hampton History Museum auditions for Horror Tours will not be held Sept. 11-12. They will be rescheduled to Monday, Sept. 17 and Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 5-7 p.m. 
  • The Hampton Diversity College session for Thursday, Sept. 13, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Northampton Community Center has been canceled.
