[ARCHIVED] FEMA plans test of nationwide wireless emergency alert system Wednesday

Oct. 2, 2018 - The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of both the Wireless Emergency Alert and the Emergency Alert systems Wednesday.  The WEA test will start at 2:18 p.m. and the EAS test will start at 2:20 p.m. 

The WEA test is used to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children and other critical situations. The system will send a message to cell phones under the header "Presidential Alert." The EAS test will be similar to monthly test messages that are broadcast on radio and TV.
