[ARCHIVED] Michael to bring possible flooding; Thursday trash schedule unchanged

Oct. 10, 2018 - Hurricane Michael is expected to bring rain to Hampton Roads Thursday evening and into Friday, with the possibility of tropical-storm force winds and minor tidal flooding in Hampton.

Emergency Management staff and department heads are closely monitoring the status and progress of the storm and communicating regularly with state emergency officials. Hampton's Public Works crews, meanwhile, continue regular maintenance of city ditches and storm drains.

While trash collection will take place as scheduled on Thursday, collections on Friday, Monday and Tuesday will depend on Michael's impact in the area. Residents are reminded that it is against city ordinances to put out bulk trash or yard debris early. That debris can clog drains or ditches and increase flooding risks.

Please monitor local news outlets and Hampton’s social media for weather alerts. Friday morning  - until the high tide around noon - presents the greatest risk of flooding. Because there are some low-lying areas that flood more frequently, we ask that people remain careful and avoid driving through water if they can't see the road.
