[ARCHIVED] Tropical storm prompts tornado watch, flash flood watch across the region

Oct. 11, 2018 - Conditions created by Tropical Storm Michael have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado watch for this area until 9 p.m. tonight. Residents are encouraged to review tornado safety rules and prepare to move to a place of safety if threatening weather approaches. The area is also under a flash flood watch.

Due to the threat of bad weather, after-school programs sponsored by the Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services Department, including Beyond the Bell and Therapeutic Recreation programs, have been canceled and parents are asked to pick up students as soon as possible. Students will still be received by programs until parents can make arrangements to pick them up.

Hampton's Public Works Department is checking area storm drains and ditches for blockages, and the city's Emergency Management Office is in regular contact with state officials and the weather service.
