[ARCHIVED] Oyster gardening news

April 5, 2019 - Here are the April dates for our Sunset Boating Center Oyster Gardening! As the water warms, our oyster "baybies" should be starting to really grow! Yay for Spring!

APRIL:

We will be checking on our oysters TOMORROW (Saturday) April 6, 9:30am at Sunset Boating Center, 800 S. Armistead Ave. The water is starting to warm up, so we should be starting to see them grow! The weather forecast is indicating there may be some rain. As always, "Pool Rules" will apply. In other words, we will garden if it's not totally awful and/or thundering/lightening. Hey, at least it's supposed to be a bit warmer!

Friday April 19, 11am (with possible lunch at Barking Dog after!)

JUNE:

Our Hampton Oyster Round-Up is scheduled for Thursday, June 27th, 6 pm-8 pm most likely at Virginia Marine Resources Commission building at Fort Monroe. Will get details out to you as it gets closer. For now, please put a smiley face on that day, as we will have some fun!

Also, please help save the Bay by spreading the word! As many of you know, this is the time that oyster gardeners return their grown oysters, so that they can be planted on a sanctuary reef. It is also a time when people interested in oyster gardening can find out more about it, and, if interested, can pick up their oyster gardening "kit"! There are spots available at local marinas and other locations for people who don't have waterfront access.
