[ARCHIVED] Teens can now take their own emergency preparedness course on May 4

April 17, 2019 - Teenagers can now learn how to save lives and property during an emergency by taking a one-day emergency preparedness course on Saturday, May 4 at Fire Station 11, 1304 Big Bethel Road.

Sponsored by Hampton's Citizens' Unity Commission and the Office of Emergency Management, Community Emergency Response Team training for youth will teach them about fire safety, disaster medical assistance and more.

Professional emergency service personnel - including firefighters and police - are often the first line of defense in a disaster. But because firefighters and police may not be able to help everyone immediately, people with CERT training can use what they are taught to help their family or neighbors until more help arrives. CERT training for adults is a multi-day program. The training for young people will be from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on May 4. There are about 30 openings available and teens must be 13 or older to participate.
