[ARCHIVED] Citizens Unity Commission will sponsor a special Iftar dinner on May 29

Iftar Dinner

May 7, 2019 - Hampton's Citizens Unity Commission and the Rumi Friendship Association of Norfolk will sponsor a special Iftar dinner – "Break Bread and Make a Friend" – on May 29. Iftar is the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. Ramadan is the period of religious fasting, helping the needy and performing charitable acts celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It is customary to invite neighbors and friends to share in the Iftar meal. The Unity Commission and Rumi Friendship Association hope to provide a message of peace, celebrate the diversity of neighbors and friends, increase understanding and acceptance in the community, and build lasting friendships. The Iftar Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the Northampton Community Center. Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck will be keynote speaker.
