Ft Monroe Mill Creek Kayak Cleanup, May 18, 8am, Fort Monroe Floating Dock, across from the soccer field. Bring your kayaks and life vests and let's clean up Mill Creek! We'll provide bags, gloves, and grabbers. Contact Cris at causink@hampton.gov to sign up!

Groovin’ by the Bay Litter- Free Event Cleanups, May 26 – September 1, Sundays, 5pm – 8pm, Buckroe Beach Park, 100 S 1st St, Hampton. Need volunteers, one site coordinator and 3 - 4 volunteers for each Sunday evening throughout the summer. Contact Cynthia at cfharris@hampton.gov for more information. April Adopt-A-Spot & Special Cleanups: 116 cleanups, 814 volunteers, 1460 hours, 676 bags of trash, and 23,857 cigarette butts. This means that volunteers picked up nearly 7 tons of trash, which kept nearly 6 tons out of our waterways (80 percent of the trash on land ends up in waterways). In addition, by removing those cigarette butts, volunteers prevented the pollution of almost 48,000 gallons of water – that’s 596 bathtubs full of water…

World Environment Day, June 5, the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. The theme for 2019 is air pollution.
