June 14, 2019 - Hampton City Manager Mary Bunting announced Friday that "after an extensive search process that netted a very competitive pool of candidates, I have appointed our own Jason H. Monk to be the permanent Fire Chief. It is especially gratifying to have found the best candidate for this critical role internally. Jason has worked in nearly every aspect of our fire and medical service and have served his entire 22-year career with Hampton."

Bunting added: "As you know, Jason has served as Interim Fire Chief since September 2017 following the retirement of former Fire Chief David E. Layman. Jason has done an outstanding job during this time, earning accolades from our career and volunteer staff alike." Read the manager's full message online.
