On Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 6 p.m., the City of Hampton’s Rapid Engagement of Support in the Event of Trauma (R.E.S.E.T.) Team will be deployed in the area of Buckroe Beach.

Violent crime and traumatic events not only affects victims and their families, but can also impact the entire community. Volunteers on the R.E.S.E.T. team have a vested interest in collaboratively improving the overall well-being of their neighbors and the communities in their city. The R.E.S.E.T Team, a collaborative effort involving the Hampton Police Division, Hampton Victim Services Unit and the Hampton Youth Violence Prevention Office, is comprised of citizens and city employees who will visit communities after their community has experienced a traumatic event.

On June 22, 2019 at approximately 7:57 p.m., Hampton Police Officers were on patrol at Buckroe Beach when several shots were fired in the area. Officers immediately responded and located several victims on the beach suffering from gunshot wounds. A 12-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 7-year-old female, a 31-year-old female, and a 52-year-old male were also transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries by members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.

As a result of this traumatic event, the R.E.S.E.T. team will be visiting residents in the area of the Buckroe Beach on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 6 p.m. These volunteers will be wearing safety vests that clearly identify them as R.E.S.E.T. team members. While going door to door, team members will offer residents packets that will include information that can assist them and their neighbors in the recovery process as well as offer prevention and intervention services that can improve their quality of life.

If you or someone you know is in need of services or information to assist in the recovery process in relation to this incident and you do not reside in the Buckroe area, please contact Hampton Victim Services Unit at 757–726–6978.
