[ARCHIVED] Hampton library to add Hoopla e-book service, replace Overdrive

hoopla-digital-image

Aug. 2, 2019 — The Hampton Public Library is replacing e-book provider Overdrive with Hoopla beginning Sept. 1, 2019. Hampton online users won't have to worry about not having as many digital reading choices, though. With Hoopla, the library's e-book collection will increase to more than 300,000 titles from around 5,000 titles currently with Overdrive.

The change to Hoopla includes other advantages:

  • There are no holds or waiting in Hoopla — patrons can check out any e-book at any time, without waiting for a title to become available.
  • The service can still be used on computers and mobile devices, in the same way OverDrive does.

Please note that the list of titles offered on Hoopla will not overlap exactly with Overdrive. If someone has borrowed any books on Overdrive that are not offered on Hoopla, the patron will lose access to those books after Aug. 31. Those who uses e-books on their mobile devices will need to install the Hoopla app after Sept. 1.

All other Hampton library online services will still be available. For more information, contact the library at 757-727-1312.
