[ARCHIVED] Monday, Feb. 10, is the deadline to register to vote in the Democratic presidential primary


Feb. 7, 2020 - Monday, Feb. 10, is the last day to register or update your voter registration for the March 3 Virginia Democratic presidential primary. Here’s how:

  • By mail: Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 10.
  • In-person: Applications must be submitted by 5 pm Feb. 10.
  • Online: Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm Feb. 10.

Any Virginian can check or update their registration name or address, or register for the first time at the Department of Election’s online Citizen Portal at

The Republican Party has decided not to hold a primary and will allocate its delegates at the state convention.

Key dates for the primary

  • Feb. 10: Last day to register to vote or update your address for this election. If you move, your polling place will change.
  • Feb. 25 by 5 p.m.: Last day to request that an absentee ballot be mailed to you.
  • Feb. 29: Last day to vote an absentee ballot, in person, at your local voter registration office.
  • March 3: Election Day, and polls open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
