Sept. 29, 2020 - Young people ages 14-18 are encouraged to submit an essay on modern-day policing during this year's National Faith and Blue Weekend, Oct. 9-11. Hosted locally by the Hampton Police Minister's Academy Alumni and Hampton Police, the weekend is part of a national effort to engage local communities through neighborhood activities.

Police and the academy alumni will hold a “Vigil of Understanding” on Oct. 10 from 2-4 p.m. at The Messiah Center, 1421 W. Pembroke Ave. The vigil will bring members of Hampton’s law enforcement and faith communities together to talk about diversity and inclusion.

Essays should be about “Modern Day Policing and Society: Where are We Headed as a Community, a State, or as a Nation.” All youth who submit an essay will be invited to the vigil to share an excerpt with attendees. Essays must be submitted by Oct. 5. Go online for more information and essay guidelines.
